We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Beyond Capital Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), an initiative aimed at empowering and supporting early-stage social enterprises across Europe.
The Beyond Capital project, financed by the European Union under the Erasmus Plus program, involves seven European organizations as diverse as the countries they represent:

- Cooperation Bancaire pour l’Europe (Belgium)
- Synthesis Center for Research and Education Limited (Cyprus)
- ECSF GmbH (Germany)
- Exeo Lab Srl (Italy)
- Malta Stock Exchange Institute Ltd (Malta)
- Gestión Estratégica e Innovación SL (Spain)
Together, the Beyond Capital partnership has crafted a MOOC tailored to the unique needs of social enterprises. But how did we get here?
- Present Situation Analysis: Our journey began two years ago with a deep dive into the landscape of early-stage social entrepreneurship. Through focus groups, we engaged with social entrepreneurs to understand their specific needs and barriers to accessing finance. The data revealed invaluable insights into local social enterprise models and the challenges faced in securing financial resources. Six key themes emerged from the focus groups:
- Measuring social impact
- Navigating non-repayable resources
- Marketing strategies
- Building networks
- Understanding the spectrum of financial resources
- Attracting professionals with technical competencies
- Curriculum Development: Armed with the knowledge gained from the previous phase, we set out to develop training modules. Each partner contributed their expertise, and a peer review process ensured quality materials. Once completed, the course was translated into national languages, ready for the piloting phase.
- Iterative Needs Analysis: As participants engaged in the pilot activities, they provided valuable feedback while going through the Beyond Capital training course. To facilitate this feedback process, we employed online surveys.
